Appreciative Inquiry
Organisations are human constructs, shaped by what their members
think, imagine and say. Their language and stories create their
reality. The way in which information is gathered, research is conducted
and performance is evaluated determines not only the information
received but the very culture in which work takes place. Focusing
on wrongness perpetuates fault-finding, focusing on success creates
a high performance culture. We use Appreciative Inquiry - an innovative
approach in the field of organisational development - to transform
strategic planning, team mergers, restructuring and value based
initiatives. Appreciative Inquiry progresses through distinct stages:
identifying areas for enhanced performance; critical questioning;
dialoguing to unearth powerful stories of success; building success
stories into a compelling vision of the future; and feeding this
back to the organisation.
